• A Central African lyre made from human skull, antelope horns, skin, gut, and hair, 19th century A.D. It is currently stored at the Metropolitan museum.
This unusual piece was purchased at the end of the 19th century and was originally thought to have come from South America when it was cataloged in 1906. It was eventually reattributed to Central Africa, although there is no known tradition to which this instrument may be assigned. Some have suggested that it may have been made for symbolic or clandestine ritual use, but most likely it is a sensational item made by a clever indigenous entrepreneur for trade and profit with Europeans in the 19th century

  • In Ancient Egypt, cats were deeply spiritual animals. They were seen as sacred beings with a strong connection to the divine, especially to the goddess Bastet. Bastet was the goddess of protection, home, fertility, and motherhood, and she was often depicted as a lioness or as a woman with the head of a domestic cat.

Egyptians believed that cats could ward off evil spirits, especially those that brought disease or misfortune. Their ability to see in the dark was seen as a spiritual gift, allowing them to perceive the unseen like ghosts, demons, or divine presences.

This made them natural guardians of the household and the soul.

To the Egyptians, a cat wasn’t just a pet, it was a symbol of the divine, a protector, and a spiritual companion. Letting a cat into your home meant inviting sacred protection and harmony into your life.

I’ve had many experiences that made me believe cats can see into the spirit world. They often react to things that aren’t there no sounds, no movement just something only they seem to notice.

Once when I was a kid, I suddenly felt really nauseous while playing Spyro on my PS1. I paused the game and sat still. A few minutes later, my cat came into the room after eating. It stopped, stared into the corner, and started meowing like it was scared.

Five minutes later, my nausea was completely gone. That experience convinced me that cats can sense things we can’t.

  • An elf (Old Norse álfr, Old English ælf, Old High German alb, Proto-Germanic *albaz) is a certain kind of demigod-like being in the pre-Christian mythology and religion of the Norse and other Germanic peoples.

The elves are luminous beings, “more beautiful than the sun,” whose exalted status is demonstrated by their constantly being linked with the Aesir and Vanir gods in Old Norse and Old English poetry.

The lines between elves and other spiritual beings such as the gods, giants, dwarves, and land spirits are blurry, and it seems unlikely that the heathen Germanic peoples themselves made any cold, systematic distinctions between these various groupings. It’s especially hard to discern the boundary that distinguishes the elves from the Vanir gods and goddesses. The Vanir god Freyr is the lord of the elves’ homeland, Alfheim, and at least one Old Norse poem repeatedly uses the word “elves” to designate the Vanir. Still, other sources do speak of the elves and the Vanir as being distinct categories of beings, such that a simple identification of the two would be misguided.

The elves also have ambivalent relations with humans. Elves commonly cause human illnesses, but they also have the power to heal them, and seem especially willing to do so if sacrifices are offered to them. Humans and elves can interbreed and produce half-human, half-elfin children, who often have the appearance of humans but possess extraordinary intuitive and magical powers.
Humans can apparently become elves after death, and there was considerable overlap between the worship of human ancestors and the worship of the elves.

The worship of the elves persisted centuries after the Germanic people’s formal conversion to Christianity, as medieval law codes prohibiting such practices demonstrate. Ultimately, then, their veneration lasted longer than even that of the gods.

  • Norse shamanism/meditation keywords:

In Old Norse shamanism, the term Óðr typically signifies a state of inspired ecstasy or poetic fervor linked to Óðinn. It can also denote "poetry" itself or represent a kind of poetic essence, embodying the intense and creative energy of inspiration. In certain contexts, Óðr is connected to divine madness or the potent force of the mind and spirit.

The word Önd in Old Norse means "breath" or "spirit," and it expresses the idea of a life force or vitality—similar to the concept of a "soul." It captures the breath of life (Odin's Gift), the power that sustains living beings.

Together, these words reflect profound cultural and philosophical concepts in Norse Paganism and literature, emphasizing the central roles of inspiration and the spiritual essence of life.

  • The Gebo-Ansuz bindrune appears on several artifacts, most notably the Undley bracteate and the Kragehul spear shaft. Some scholars have suggested it may be a shortened form of "gibu auja" (“I give luck”), as this exact phrase appears—though not as a bindrune—on a bracteate from Zealand. However, it is more likely that the bindrune represents a combination of "gift" (Gebo) and "Æsir" (Ansuz), signifying an object sacralized for offering or ritual sacrifice.

Examining the Kragehul spear, the inscription reads:
ek erilaz āsugīsalas muha haitē —
“I, the erilaz of Āsugīsalaz, am called Muha (bindrunes).”
    On the reverse side:
“(bindrunes) the mighty roarer, hail! I dedicate to the spear.”

The name Āsugīsalaz appears to be a compound of "Ás" (God) and "gīsalaz" (pledge or hostage), which may suggest a ritual function or divine dedication. Spears were commonly offered in sacrifice, and may even have been hurled over enemies in battle—symbolically replicating Odin’s casting of Gungnir at the start of the Æsir–Vanir War, consecrating foes to the god.

Thus, the Gebo-Ansuz bindrune is a powerful symbol, especially suitable for objects meant to be offered to the gods in reverence or sacrifice.

  • Gullveig Chant.

    Witch Goddess Gullveig
    Master of the Northern Witches
Expert in the art of Seidh
    Lady of the transformations

    You caused a great war
    You, trice burnt
    Seer, Vitki woman
    Trice re-born

    You are the radiant gold
Some call you the caldron Witch
    You bring the singed broom
    Great Vanir Witch

    The Lynx follows you
    The white crow guides you
    The owl gives you advice
    The spider protects you

The echo from the witches in the mist
    Calls you the first witch
You are the first, not the last
You inhabit in each of them

There are no secrets for you
    Master of the fire
    You are both,
    The creator and the destroyer

    From the powerful gold magic
    Moon Blood ablaze
    By the primordial fire
    The heart is consumed

    Invocations are cast
In the dark of the moon you arrive
    Amidst the hidden balefire
    Your witches praise you

    At the Walpurgis feast
    They dance in your honour.
As it was in the past,
    As it is today

    Illuminate and cause madness
    Protect, teach and nourish us
    Witch of the perennial fables
Hidden within the mist and masks

    Impostors Pseudo Witches
In the wolf era called you
The one of the thousand names
    But you never answered them

    You, radiant Gullveig
    An alliance is established
    Powerful energy is emanated
    Conjures will fall beside you

One who doesn’t know your ways will loose oneself
    Among mirages and reflexes
From death, madness and love Goddess of the mortal spell

We make a toast in your honour
    Protector of this brotherhood
    Burn! purifying fire.
    You, the eternal Goddess witch

In the rituals of moon and blood
    Powerful soothsaying chants
    Wheel of white masks
    Curses will be returned

    Guardian of other times
    Odinist women in Midgard
Reborn, to your call they will respond
And your name will never be forgotten

    The Hawk wings will guide
The flames of the fire will untie
May the great nation of the Visigoth Eagle
Be ready for battle under your fire, just waken now.

    To you father of all
    Lord of ravens and wolfs
Charm and magic in your words
    Biting joy in your irony

I expose lyrics in your honor
My humor and faith I offer
    Lightning that illuminates
In my soul lies your poetry

    Wodanaz Uuoden Wodan
    The sowed fields
    Of your warriors are
    Full of glory and vengeance

    Wings of black raven
    Ride in the skies
    Blessed are they

Under the protection of your gaze
    You great One-Eyed God

    Giver of ecstasies
    Lord of fury
    And recovered strength

    Blue cloak is your cape
    Swift and veil your saddle
    Lord of all the runes
    Victory is your home.

    May the Visigoth tribe
    Your blessing receive
    Where ever they are
    May your call resound
    In all Midgaard arise

    Your Odinist Visigoths
    Crossing Valleys and Oceans
    Your spirituality will be preserved.

  • Trying to decide if i want to pull the trigger on buzzing all my hair off and letting it all grow back out.
Before I shaved the sides and did the udercut hairstyle, i already had long hair, and have always had long hair all my life. However i used to dye it black. Like the first two photos show, i still got a lot of hair and can let it down and it looks like ive just got a full head of long hair. I had orginally wanted to get tattoos on the sides of my head, and still kind of want to. But part of me is getting tired maintaining this hairstyle, and theres some spiritual reasons on why i sort of want to grow all of my hair out again. Decsions decisions...

  • I'm almost ashamed of the mess of supplies under my little table...
But good day, everyone~! I have a question of curiosity for you. But first, please allow me to indulge in a glimmer of mine. The question will be a little below~

It's nearing noon in the Pacific Time Zone. Here, we're enjoying the sun. Cora's favorite blanket is in her favorite cove next to my favorite rocking chair and beloved altar. My "glimmer" is that I've had her for 12 years as of this month (I'll add a baby picture~). Our journey together has been bumpy, but she's stuck with me through it all and has always been there for me.

Cora has not necessarily been a traditional "witch's familiar", despite being the first pet I had as wholly my own, but she has certainly still played a role in my growth as I went through my twenties.

It's no secret that bonding with animals can be largely beneficial for our overall wellbeing and health. But today, I'm curious about the spiritual.

**My question to the fellow pet owners and feral fosters: Has having an animal companion played a significant role on your spiritual path? Do you incorporate them into your practices in some way?

Are they, like Cora, a pain to keep off of your altar?

I hope that wherever you are, your day is favorable. I wish the best for each of you on this spring Thursday! Many smiles and much love~ If you have an animal friend, give them a pat for me~!

(And thank you for indulging in my glimmer with me~)
