Today I share with you guys some lesser known bits on myself i dont show on social media a lot, but among my many things i enjoy, macabre things are of course among my favorite. I am Goth, outside of wearing Tunics and linen pants, and my usual listening of Nordic Folk Music, I enjoy a lot of older somber, dark or melancholic musics .
Among my macabre fascinations, anything related to the undead, Vampire's in particular are a favorite of mine, and this is what actually lead to the name the majority of anyone who knows me, knows me by Draugr. Draugr wasnt always my legal name and i changed my name some time ago honoring what my tribe called me for my intrests, and to give some honor to my mother and grandfather.
Now Draugr in particular isnt an honor to my mother and grandfather but my middle name Skuggi-Ulfr is.
My mother wanted me to have a more traditional name when I was born, but my grandparents did not want this, they wanted me to have a very christian name, more so my grandmother than anything as my grandfather was pagan but kept the christian facade to keep family members happy. So of course i never got a traditional name that my mother wanted at birth, but i had a nickname Ulf (Wolf), and my grand father being pagan had seen the form of the spirit that followed me, my Fylgja, a black wolf she is. So in some way through a nickname, my mother got to have a traditional name for me.
Fast forward to being an adult and i changed my name to Draugr Skuggi-Ulfr, honoring both what my tribe placed upon me as well as my mother and grandfather.
I used Skuggi over Svart for the black wolf, as a homage to the spirit, skuggi highlighting it more as a spirit over the color that it is, but still referencing its black fur in some way.
I think names are a powerful thing for us, highlighting who we are ans out deeds. Just look at Óðinn and his many names and titles, all those names mean something and conjure great and different images of him, and so too should our names be great and conjure up powerful images.
I do tell most people to just call me Ulf though
