A few photos from the "Jack in the green" may day festival in my home town of Hastings, east sussex, England. This is a traditional folk festival consisting of drummers, morris dancers, old folk influenced rtiuals and wonderfully costumed people of all types. The intent of the festival is to slay the spirit of winter and welcome the spirit of summer. It has some old world/pagan influences but done in a very traditionally British way with lots of noise, music and drinking!
