The whole Anderida border morris gang posing in the entrance to Pevensey castle.
The original walls of this castle were built around 290AD by the Romans as a shore fort to guard against early saxon raiders.
It was largely abandoned until the Normans reoccupied it in 1066 and built a new keep within the Roman walls. It was abandoned again by the 16th century and remained that way until the 1920s.The whole Anderida border morris gang posing in the entrance to Pevensey castle. A few photos from the "Jack in the green" may day festival in my home town of Hastings, east sussex, England.
This is a traditional folk festival consisting of drummers, morris dancers, old folk influenced rtiuals and wonderfully costumed people of all types.
The intent of the festival is to slay the spirit of winter and welcome the spirit of summer.
It has some old world/pagan influences but done in a very traditionally British way with lots of noise, music and drinking!A few photos from the "Jack in the green" may day festival in my home town of Hastings, east sussex, England. Perhaps some introductions are in order.
My Name is Terry and I'm from sunny East Sussex on the south coast of England. Historically this was the land of the South Saxons and the Hastingas tribe before that (the Romans came for a while then buggered off).
I work as a lighting/warehouse technician by day and make knives and swords by hand as a small business in my spare time.
I have always had a fascination for folklore and folk traditions. Luckily, the area in which I live has a rich history of such things and has experienced a revival of interest in the last 20 years or so.
I enjoy drumming with my morris side, listening to music and enjoying a nice beer whilst smoking my pipe, amongst other things.

A little bit of morris dancing from the weekend.
For the unaware, morris is a traditional English folk dance, thought to originate around the 1500s. It's usually performed at public events during the spring and summer. There are a number of different styles but thia is what's know as "border morris", coming from the borders of England and Wales. It involves the clashing of sticks and choreographed dances with live music.A little bit of morris dancing from the weekend. Good afternoon folks.
I make blades. Some big, some small, mostly historical or at least historical inspired, all hand made.
It's a passion, a personal interest and a business.
