This song is inspired by a recurring theme in shaman myths. People destined to be shamans are born with an extra bone, like a finger or tooth. They don't even want to become shamans as it is a very arduous task, but it is inevitable, so they fall into a sickness. They are haunted by visions in which their bodies are torn apart so the spirits can see their bone. Then they are put together again and return bearing knowledge.

In Old Norse shamanism, the term Óðr typically signifies a state of inspired ecstasy or poetic fervor linked to Óðinn. It can also denote "poetry" itself or represent a kind of poetic essence, embodying the intense and creative energy of inspiration. In certain contexts, Óðr is connected to divine madness or the potent force of the mind and spirit.

The word Önd in Old Norse means "breath" or "spirit," and it expresses the idea of a life force or vitality—similar to the concept of a "soul." It captures the breath of life (Odin's Gift), the power that sustains living beings.

Together, these words reflect profound cultural and philosophical concepts in Norse Paganism and literature, emphasizing the central roles of inspiration and the spiritual essence of life.

Different pictures I've over the years. The first one I didn't even realise was Yggdrasil until the picture was done. It was made with fine liner on A3 paper. The second one I drew on my phone, and didn't realise it was a shaman until it was done. The third one is a picture I took of a pattern in a stone and the processed it in darktable.

I just love that there are so many ways to express my creativity. These days I focus mainly on creating music on my laptop, and going to set up a small studio in my house to be able to record my drumming sessions.

What I love is the feeling of starting a new project, no matter what medium I use, and see where the drawings or sounds take me.

We have little or no sources how Slavic priests and guślarze (kind of "shamans") dresses but as a musicians we can let our imagination off the leash and try to have fun with symbolism and looking cool

In Slavic beliefs the god of magic, oaths and underworld was Weles. He was directly connected with cattles so his main attribute was cattle horns on his head. There are few sources that says when people took oaths they sat on fur, the best option was cows fur. The fur was meant to connect the person with the underworld and Weles himself.

So here we have our Guslar shaman with cattle like horns and a mask made of calf's skin

We are Itinera, a dark folk duo from Hungary, inspired by our Hungarian heritage (folk songs and Shamanism) and the mood of Nordic Pagan folk, mixing these with electronic soundscapes.

The result of this mix is a dark fantasy world with a cross-cultural message about the importance of humanity's cultural heritage, connecting to the transcendental, and facing our inner darkness so we can emerge from it as better people.

In Hungarian folklore, the "táltos paripa" is a fire-eating horse, but it actually has roots in old times when we had Shamanism, a metaphor for the drum being held over fire and taking the shaman on journeys through the constant beating. This song is inspired by the shaman's words to their drum as they encourage it to provide them a safe journey.

Rapé its an ancient medicine used for thousand of years in South America, by our ancestors.

Mixed with tobacco (50%) and other plants, it is often used by indigenous shamans for healing.

Rapé its ALWAYS applied by other people on you, (except for studies). Because the effect of simply sniffing is not Rapé. A "Medicine man" is needed, one who has been initiated in art of spirit of Rapé, knowing the variation of woodwinds based on local Landvaettir (Serpent blow, Hummingbird blow, Jaguar blow...), each one with their own your intention, to work on the pacient.

Kindreds of Brazil practice seidr, spá and other practical magic in blóts, as part of their land ancestry. The tobacco present in Rapé is associated with Odin, because the connection with ancestral wisdom, but using Seidr practice with rapé also too a strong conection with Freyja, both gods of shamanism and ecstasy.

I highly recommend this channel. It's not about shamanism or other forms of magic—it's simply about daily life, everyday routines, and all the challenges the Vikings faced.
