  • Björn Järnsida's (Ironside) burial mound in Sweden
In the early 18th century, a burial mound on the island of Munsö was claimed by antiquarians to be Björn Järnsidas hög or Björn Ironside's burial mound.
The runestone crowns the burial mound of him in Uppland. The stone is a fragment and has the no. U 13 in the index list. The runestone was actually in a different location, but was moved here to give the place a mystical impression.
    The runes are translated as:
    … Þorgautr, they … spirit and God's …
Today the place has become a small pilgrimage site for us pagans, which, as you can see, is often visited and large and small offerings are left behind. It was one of my favorite places to visit this year.

  • Greetings to all here from me for the first time 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛
I love to vist ancient sites all over Europe and escpecially Northern Europe of course.

On the picture you can see the great Gamla Uppsala burial mounds which I visited last week. The legendary kings of the Ynglingatal family are said to be buried here; Kings who descended directly from Freyr
From the Icelandic Heimskringla (a work attributed to Snorri Sturluson) it is said that the kings Aun, Adils and Egil were buried here in the 5th and 6th centuries - long before the Viking time and a time which is named the 'Vendel Period' in Sweden (named after a large archaeological site from this period).
The last large pagan temple in Northern Europe, which is said to have been dedicated to the Nordic gods, was also located in Gamla Uppsala.

I hope you enjoy my little history lesson. I will share these lessons with you here from time to time from now on
