Cuesta entender el afán de muchos grupos pseudo espirituales por recrear sociedades que recuerdan mucho a la serie “Vikingos”.

Digo, se entiende que buscan emociones fuertes y que en definitiva necesitan ciertos estímulos para creer en lo que están haciendo, pero aún así suena raro viniendo de gente adulta que tiene familia a cargo.

Vamos por partes. Estamos de acuerdo con que la figura de un líder es necesaria para la organización de cada culto, alguien tiene que hacer el trabajo más pesado, pero el jarl históricamente es una figura ajena al papel del gudja en las sociedades germánicas antiguas.

Algo no cuadra cuando un grupo de corte heathen hace referencias a un “jarl” como jefe religioso.

El jarl pertenece al período vikingo (siglo VIII al XI d.C.), tenía facultades de juez además de fungir como líder de una provincia, pero su rol en general se limitaba a lo político-administrativo aunque, por rango social, tenía el derecho de sacrificar primero o representar al pueblo a su cargo ante los sacerdotes o sacerdotisas (pero eso no lo convertía en una autoridad religiosa). Por lo anterior, si en un grupo espiritual moderno se habla de “jarl” para referirse a su líder, uno puede pensar que se trata de una organización que pretende emular el feudalismo con el fin de sonar más interesante.

Pero ¿saben por qué tantos grupos recurren a estas ridiculeces para sentirse auténticos? porque no han entendido de qué va la Tradición.

Necesitan llenar vacíos haciéndose los interesantes porque les urge captar ingenuos, les gusta la cantidad (como a ciertos cultos masivos), el dinero que dejan esas locuras y recurren a la treta más sencilla para procurarla; el espectáculo.

Ya dijimos que un clan es una familia (tiene que haber más de una persona, entiendan), hemos explicado cómo se construye y qué obligaciones tenemos dentro de él, además de cuál es su importancia en nuestra espiritualidad.

Pero que de la nada aparezca por ahí un “jarl” hablando de clanes como si fueran las organizaciones escocesas medievales pues… Está de pensarse.

Ya nada más falta que diseñen sus estandartes para poder crear la inmersión que pretenden.

Tenemos que ser cautos y advertir este tipo de manifestaciones que lamentablemente pululan en la red.

Lo hemos dicho antes y lo seguimos reafirmando: hay gente que se quiere sentirse especial y es muy buena embaucando personas que también buscan lo mismo.

Hay que ser realistas y aceptar que no somos lo más llamativo del heathendom, que nos la pasamos hablando de trabajo en vez de poner memes o aparecer en ferias medievales estilo D&D. Pero pasa que aquí no toleramos que se juegue con aquello que consideramos sagrado.

Si buscas emociones fuertes primero aprende a integrar los valores de la Tradición a tu vida, solo así podrás tener una experiencia auténtica.

No nos interesa parecer vikingos o nórdicos, somos conscientes de las ventajas y desventajas que tenemos según nuestro contexto social y, por supuesto, hemos aprendido a no romantizar el pasado. ¿Qué lugar puede tener un jarl en un heathendom moderno reconstruccionista cuando dicha figura apareció en el período de mayor decadencia de los pueblos germánicos y nórdicos? Ninguno, por supuesto.

Claro que los problemas con tanto alucín (loco, desorientado, mitómano, etc.) no se van a resolver con este artículo, pero conviene comentar esta información con los más jóvenes o aquellos que recién empiezan a transitar este camino lleno de aventuras en este y otros mundos.

Recuerden: si veneran a nuestros dioses en los desiertos, selvas, bosques, playas o hasta en la luna (por aquello de los viajes comerciales al espacio), el culto no lo hace el lugar ni nuestra apariencia, lo hacemos nosotros porque ellos ya son parte de nuestra vida desde el momento en que decidimos abrirles nuestro corazón y mente.

About the upcoming Disablót.

The Disablót is one of the most famous blót´s, and like the Midvinter blót/yule one of the most misunderstood blót´s. The Disablót did not take place at the beginning of February, but at the third month called Göja/Göje (today between around the end of February and mid-March). It was when the Swedes were Christianized that the Disting/Disablót was moved to the Christian holiday of the Candle Mass, which is at the beginning of February (today on February 2) and even today Disting market is organized.

Disting/Disablót is mentioned by Adam of Bremen, according to him, this simply takes place in Old Uppsala in the month of Göje after the vernal equinox and all inhabitants of Svitjod (Sweden) had to participate, if they did not want to participate they had to pay a fine.

The disablót is deeply rooted in the veneration of the Disir´s – a group of powerful female forces closely associated with destiny, fertility, protection, and the general well-being of the family and community. The Disir´s are central figures in the Asatru, they are linked to the Nornirs who determine our destinies but also to the fylgior´s, thus the Disir´s are revered in part as ancestral guardians who exert a profound influence over our lives. They watch over their kin, guarantee prosperity, offer protection and guidance through both everyday and spiritual challenges. But the disir´s are also associated with the Valkyries and the Vanadis Freya.

The Disablót falls on the first full moon before the Victory Blót and lasts for one day/night.
If you want to use the disting-rule, the Disablót is the third full moon after the first new moon after the winter solstice.
The disting occurs every nine years with the same calculation.

Every nine years the Disting was held. The event lasted for 9 nights, a market was organised, horse races, parties and, of course, the usual blót, etc. The market survived Christianisation and is still organised today, but around a Christian holiday.

In the Icelandic sources it is mentioned that the Disablót was performed in connection with the holiday of Winter Nights, this is probably the Icelanders’ and Norwegians’ time for the Disablót while the Swedes held it in the spring.

The historical dates of Yule.

Hakon the Good was a Norwegian king, who tried to force Christianity on Norway (hence he is called “the Good.”) In the Saga of Hakon the Good, Hakon moved Yule from its traditional time on the Heathen Lunar calendar, to be at the same time as christian celebration called christmas.

Chapter 15 of the saga "Hakon the Good":
“King Hakon was a good Christian when he came to Norway; but as the whole country was heathen, with much heathen blot, and as many great people, as well as the favor of the common people, were to be conciliated, he resolved to practice his Christianity in private. But he kept Sundays, and the Friday fasts, and some token of the greatest holy-days. He made a law that the festival of Yule should begin at the same time as Christian people held it, and that every man, under penalty, should brew a meal of malt into ale, and therewith keep the Yule holy as long as it lasted. Before him, the first night of Yule was on hǫkunótt, that is midwinter night, and Yule was held for three nights."

The Chronicon of Thietmar of Merseburg Chapter 17 (circa 925 AD):
"As I have heard odd stories concerning their ancient mid-winter sacrifices (blots), I will not allow this custom to be ignored. The middle of that kingdom is called Lederun (Lejre), in the region of Sjælland, all the people gathered every nine years in January, that is after we have celebrated the birth of the Lord, and there they offered to their gods sacrifices…”
