Marzanna (fon. maʒaŋŋa) or Morana - Slavic goddess of winter and death. She is responsible for winter cold and "death" of nature. During Spring Equinox people were making a figure made of straw and linen and woolen fabric. This figure represents Marzanna. People whispered to her all the bad thing they want to be gone and afterwards they set her on fire and throw into the river. People believed they will banish winter this way and help nature to live again.
